This week (6-12 July) marks Net Zero Week.
Across the Telecom Division we are committed to introducing decarbonisation initiatives to deliver significant improvements in carbon intensity.
Making the switch to Electric (EV) and hybrid vehicles is just one key initiative we have put in place across our operating businesses, and our teams have been working hard to ensure this switch is seamless for our people.
Throughout the last year, our amount of EV and hybrid vehicles has risen by 72%, now accounting for 20% of our vehicle fleet.
We understand that switching across to EV vehicles can be a significant change for our people, and we have been working hard to support our staff in installing the infrastructure needed. This has included installing EV chargers at their home address through subsidising installation costs, as well as providing them with EV fuel cards to access UK-wide public charge points, accelerating the transition away from diesel and petrol vehicles.
Ensuring our colleagues can charge their vehicles at work has been an integral part of the switch to EV. As a result, we have installed chargers across several of our depots, to support our commercial and company car fleet drivers.
The switch to EV and hybrid vehicles is just one part of our initiative to reduce carbon. We continue to engage with suppliers to increase the amount of waste sent for recycling, as well as introduce new environmental sustainability training for our people, building on their knowledge around the environmental aspects and impacts of their work, whether in the field or depots. This training compliments the broad range of training already on offer across our Division.
As a result of these initiatives, we are delighted to announce that our carbon intensity, measured as tonnes of carbon per million pounds revenue, has fallen 17.2% from 20.9 to 17.3tCO2e/£m.
Across M Group Services, we are committed to protecting our people, the public and the planet.
